Seaside Retreats

While looking at this photo in which Jacqueline and the late President John F. Kennedy watch the 1962 American Cup races in Newport, Rhode Island, I thought that the captured moment must have been pure and refreshing.

There is something to be said about living on the seaside or remembering one’s first arrival to the sea. There is a sense of liberation, the permission we give ourselves to relax and unplug. Some of my fondest memories with my family were spent at the beach.

When creating interiors for coastal living, I think of casual, crisp, non-cluttered rooms with a touch of modern- a place where you can feel comfortable and where you wouldn’t have to worry about your surroundings.
I guess in my own way, with Labor Day fast approaching I’m trying to say goodbye to the summer!

The clean feminine touch of designer Suzanne Kasler where she used the soft colors of pink, taupe, and white. So refreshing. Photography by Tria Giovan

You can see Jeffrey Bilhuber’s exquisite vision in creating this room, by painting the floor with the color blue, he expanded the space since blue is a receding color, just like the sea. Courtesy of Veranda, photography by Peter Murdock

There's so much light in all these photos...very important to let the sun in!

I had never seen that photo before of Jack and Jackie -- how elegant!! If only we all could still dress like that -- I'm sure Jackie's outfit was just "thrown together," so glamorous!

You’re absolutely right Jennifer. I think Jackie’s sense of style had a great impact on women around the world…
