Keith Irvine’s English Arrival

One of the most beautiful home entrances featured on the cover of House & Garden magazine was designed by Keith Irvine.

The house was located in the upper east side of Manhattan, and the owners were looking for a certain living style. After considering many designers, the design legend Irvine, known for his English country style, was chosen to create the interiors.

Following into the footsteps of architect Robert Adam, Irvine emphasized classic detailed ornaments and designed the plaster dome where the ceiling crowned the circular stairs.

Irvine wanted to create drama and astonish guests as they enter the house, so he emphasized the architecture, and the scale, color and pattern of the famed hand blocked wallpaper Pembroke Damask to create the perfect background. The colors evoke the feeling of warmth and happiness, an introduction to the ambiance of the home.

If I am not mistaken, this is a wonderful townhouse on East 71st Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue. Keith and his business partner Tom were working on it at the same time as I was completing the architectural design for a neighboring property.

Finberg,
The original marble flooring was kept, only some minor repairs were done. It certainly added elegance to the house…I love it too.
